SHIMLA - The 20-year-old son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader was stabbed to death by three youths following an argument over road racing that the two sides had got into a day before, police said Monday. The accused have been arrested.
“Shubham Chauhan was stabbed to death by three youths last (Sunday) evening near Kanlog cemetery in the town,” Superintendent of Police R.M. Sharma told IANS.
Shubham was the son of Sher Singh Chauhan, BJP Shimla district president and chairman of the Agriculture Rural Development Bank.
Rohan Bhandari and Vikram Chaudhary were arrested late Sunday while the third accused, Mohinder Singh Negi, was arrested from Kalka in Haryana Monday. All the accused are in their early 20s.
According to the police, the murder has its roots in their bid to overtake which resulted in a road race between their vehicles Saturday. The accused and the victim raced for a few kilometres before they got down from their vehicles and had a verbal spat.
They ran into each other again Sunday. One of the accused took out a knife and stabbed Shubham.
“Police took Shubham to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” Sharma said.
