Maoists behind train attack: Buddhadeb

KOLKATA - Preliminary investigations reveal that Maoist guerrillas are responsible for the train accident in West Bengal that left 65 people dead and over 200 injured Friday, Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said here.
Describing it as “a heinous attack”, Bhattacharjee said he would leave for West Midnapore “right now”.
The engine and 13 coaches of the Mumbai-bound Howrah-Kurla Gyaneshwari Express derailed and were hit by a speeding goods train near the Maoist stronghold of Jhargram, about 155 km from the state capital Kolkata, at 1.30 a.m. The train had left Howrah at 10.55 p.m.
“Four ministers have reached the spot. Rescue operations are on,” Bhattacharjee said while addressing a press conference here.
Bhattacharjee maintained a one-minute silence to mourn the victims of the attack.
