NEW DELHI - Two people have been arrested in the capital city for last week’s dacoity attempt in a senior citizen’s house in north Delhi, police said Thursday.
Raj Singh, 36, and Ravinder Singh, 36, were arrested Wednesday in north Delhi.
During a failed dacoity attempt one of their accomplices was arrested and he led the police to the others who were arrested.
The dacoity incident occurred Saturday when three men armed with locally-made pistols and a knife barged into senior citizen Rajender Khosla’s house in Mukherjee Nagar area at 11.45 a.m.
Raj Singh and Ravinder Singh were waiting outside the house, keeping a watch, while their three accomplices went inside the house.
They threatened the family and demanded money. A scuffle broke out between the intruders and Khosla. Khosla received injuries on his hand while defending himself.
“In the ensuing commotion, Khosla’s daughter-in-law escaped and raised an alarm which made the intruders nervous. Two of the intruders managed to escape leaving behind their weapons behind, but the third was caught and overpowered by Khosla,” a senior police officer said.
His interrogation revealed that Khosla’s driver Raj Singh had a friend Ravinder Singh, who introduced him to Uttar Pradesh based criminals. The driver told the dacoits that his employer had a flourishing business and in the morning he carried a bag which contained cash.
The three main accused were out on bail as they had earlier robbed a businessman of Rs.8 lakh in western Uttar Pradesh, police said.
It was also found that driver Raj Singh was involved in two criminal cases but his employer had not done his verification check with the local police.
Two of the accused are still absconding. The police have recovered two country-made pistols, five cartridges, a car and a motorcycle from the accused.
