NEW DELHI - A drug peddler was arrested and marijuana worth Rs.50 lakh seized from him, police said Tuesday.
Jaipal Singh was apprehended in Alipur area on the outskirts of Delhi Monday during a routine check of vehicles.
“Singh, who was driving a tempo, did not stop when signalled. This made us suspicious and after chasing and stopping him, we checked his vehicle and recovered 324 kg of marijuana worth Rs.50 lakh,” a police official said.
According to police, Singh had come in contact with another drug peddler, Ajay, a few months back. They became partners and Ajay purchased the drug from various places in the city and Singh used his tempo to deliver it.
“Efforts are on to arrest Ajay now. Singh said that he was doing this (ferrying around the drugs) for the last eight months but was never arrested before,” the official added.
