NEW DELHI - Five people were arrested for allegedly robbing and murdering a businessman, police said Friday.

According to police, Ricky, Shekhu, Ravi, Rakesh and Noshad, all in their 20s, were arrested in Mayapuri in west Delhi.

“They were involved in robbery and murder of a businessman in Ashok Nagar,” a police official said.

Laxmi Narain, a trader of two-wheeler spare parts, was robbed and shot dead May 14.

“Assailants came on motorcycle and tried to snatch his bag. When he resisted their attempts, the assailants shot him,” police official said.

“Ricky is a known bootlegger. Noshad also indulged in sale and supply of illicit liquor. To earn quick and easy money, both formed a gang with Rakesh, Shekhu and Ravi,” he said.

Police recovered one pistol with two live cartridges, a car and a motorcycle from the accused.
