NEW DELHI - An eight-month-old boy, kidnapped from Delhi May 13, was rescued from Bihar’s Samastipur district Tuesday, police said Thursday.

Akash was kidnapped from his home in Raja Vihar in outer Delhi by Anil Paswan, who shared the rented accommodation with Akash’s parents.

Paswan fled with the child, after Akash’s parents Rakesh and Rinki went to the market leaving the child in his care.

“Paswan assured them that he will take care of their son and they can go to the market. When the couple returned, they found both missing,” a senior police official said.

A case of kidnapping was registered May 14.

Meanwhile, Paswan called up Rinki and asked her to meet him at various locations in the capital. Police put Paswan’s phone under surveillance and traced his location to Khurji near Patna.

“A police team rushed to Bihar and Paswan was arrested from his in-laws house in Breta village of Samastipur,” the police official said. The Delhi Police team faced stiff resistance from the villagers while making the arrest.

During interrogation, Paswan, 28, revealed that he had been childless in his 10-year-old marriage. He wanted a child and also had an infatuation for Rinki.

“He thought of a plan to first kidnap the child and later on planned to convince Rinki to stay with him as his second wife,” a police official added.
