NEW DELHI - Police here Wednesday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of cheaters with the arrest of three men in the Shadipur Depot area of west Delhi.
“Three men of a gang were arrested Tuesday. They used to cheat bank customers by diverting their attention while the victims were waiting to deposit or withdraw cash,” a senior police officer said.
“They diverted their victim’s attention by offering to fill the deposit slip or count the cash withdrawn or which was to be deposited and then cleverly pinch the cash and escape.”
A total of 10 mobile phones, one car and Rs.29,500 in cash were recovered from them.
The men have been identified as Mukesh Singh, 28, Jitender Mishra, 32, and Dharmender Shah, 30. They are from Motihari district of Bihar.
Police started tracing these men after a case of cheating was registered May 5 in Patel Nagar police station. “Some similar incidents took place in other districts of Delhi as well. A special team was formed to trace the cheats,” the police officer said.
According to the officer, police laid a trap on a tip-off and arrested the men.
During interrogation, the men revealed that they cheated many people in the National Capital Region (NCR), Rajkot, Ahmedabad, Surat, Ludhiana, Mumbai and Jaipur.
