AP sources: Bomb suspect considered other targets
NEW YORK — People familiar with the Times Square bomb plot probe say the suspect said he had thought about targeting other New York City landmarks and wondered why the bomb he built failed to go off.
A person familiar with the Faisal Shahzad (FY’-sul shah-ZAHD’) case says the suspect asked investigators to tell him why the gasoline-and-propane bomb left in a smoking SUV on May 1 didn’t explode. A law enforcement official says Shahzad underwent questioning in a Brooklyn hotel room for the past two weeks.
Another official says Shahzad told authorities he had considered bombing Grand Central Terminal and Rockefeller Center before deciding on the May 1 attack on Times Square.
The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the investigation was ongoing.
Goldman reported from Washington.
