LUCKNOW - A massive fire broke out in a plastic recycling factory in a densely populated area of this Uttar Pradesh capital Monday, police said. No casualties were reported.

The fire engulfed the factory in Talkatora area. At least 10 fire tenders were pressed in to douse the blaze.

“It’s a major fire…We are still to douse it completely. However, the situation is now completely under our control,” Lucknow’s chief fire officer Rajendra Tiwari told reporters.

“There were several workers present inside the factory at the time of the accident. With the assistance of the police and locals, we managed to rescue all of them,” said Tiwari.

Residents in the area have been advised to keep their windows and doors open.

Asked how the factory was operating from a residential area, police inspector Yadunath said, “Investigations are on in this regard. We are trying to nab the owner of the factory, who is absconding after the accident.”
