Blast hits police compound in southern Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan — Officials say a bomb has exploded at the police training center in Kandahar city in southern Afghanistan.

Southern region Police Chief Shafiq Afzali said the blast occurred about midday but did not give further details. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Gunfire could be heard coming from the direction of the training center, suggesting continuing fighting.
