Traffic flowing on NJ Turnpike after major crash

CHESTERFIELD, N.J. — A fatal accident involving three trucks closed a 26-mile stretch of the New Jersey Turnpike’s northbound lanes in southern New Jersey for nearly eight hours.

State police say the crash involved a box truck, a dump truck and a tanker carrying 8,000 of kerosene and occurred around 1 a.m. Friday in Chesterfield, south of Trenton.

Turnpike Authority spokesman Joe Orlando says officials believe the box truck rear-ended the tanker.

Orlando says the box truck driver was killed and the tanker driver injured.

Two lanes reopened just after 9 a.m. Friday as workers fixed a guard rail and cleaned up spilled kerosene. The third and final lane reopened shortly before noon.

The turnpike is a major connector of New York City to points south.
