NEW DELHI - A 1989 pact between the central government and Union Carbide, absolving the company of all criminal and civil liabilities of the December 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, added to the delay in the trial in the case, said activists Monday.

NEW DELHI - Describing the Bhopal gas verdict as "painful", the Bharatiya Janata Party Monday linked it to the civil nuclear liability bill and said the government should reconsider the nuclear legislation.

BHOPAL, India - An Indian court Monday convicted seven former senior employees of Union Carbide's Indian subsidiary of "death by negligence" for their roles in the Bhopal gas tragedy that left an estimated 15,000 people dead more than a quarter century ago in the world's worst industrial disaster.
