Government doctor murdered, two detained

AZAMGARH - Two men have been detained for the brutal murder of a government doctor here, police said Tuesday.

Sanjiv Saxena, 42, an orthopaedic surgeon, was found murdered Monday at his residence in Hariharpur area.

Police said Saxena was repeatedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons.

“Injury marks on the doctor’s body indicate that the assailants brutally attacked him a number of times,” police inspector Sunil Singh told reporters Tuesday in Azamgarh, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“The doctor’s body bears many stab injuries on his face and head,” he added.

“We have detained two men in connection with the murder and both of them worked as chauffeurs for the doctor’s family,” added Singh, who declined to disclose the motive behind the crime or to share other information on the investigations.

Saxena was posted in a community health centre in Chandauli, a district town neighbouring Azamgarh.

He was spotted Lying in a pool of blood when his maid came to work at his house Monday.

“Saxena came to his native place a few days ago. No family members were present inside the house at the time he was attacked. The doctor’s wife and daughter were in Delhi when he was attacked,” a police official said.
