NEW DELHI - Two teachers, who were conducting census survey, were allegedly beaten up by residents in a east Delhi locality Wednesday, police said.

According to police, the incident took place around 2 p.m. in West Karawal Nagar in Khazoori Khas.

The victims - Arvind Kumar, 45, and Sunil Kumar, 47, both teachers at Municipal Corporation of Delhi schools - were thrashed by two locals while conducting census. One assailant was identified as Rishipal (30), said a police officer.

When Arvind asked Rishipal about the address of a woman named Satyawati Devi, he was abused by Rishipal. When he resisted, Rishipal beat up Arvind, added the officer.

Satyawati Devi is mother of Rishipal, he said.

The officer said that Sunil Kumar, who was also conducting census survey nearby, came to help Arvind and was stoned by Rishipal and another resident.

Arvind made a call at Police Control Room. We reached the spot and found both were bleeding profusely. They were taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital for treatment, added the officer.
