Three kids killed as mother jumps into well with them

BHADOHI - Driven to the brink of desperation by her poverty, a woman here Tuesday jumped into a well with her three sons, killing them instantly, police said. The mother is battling for life in a hospital.
Usha Devi, 40, tried taking her final plunge along with her three sons - aged 5-10 years - in Manikpur village.
“While the children could not be saved, the locals managed to rescue Usha Devi and get her admitted to a hospital,” police inspector Suresh Kumar Tiwari told reporters in Bhadohi, about 250 km from Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow.
“She has suffered head injuries and her condition is stated to be critical,” he added.
Poor finances seemed to be the reason behind the step.
“Preliminary investigations reveal that a financial crunch prompted the woman to take the extreme step. Her husband, who is a daily wage labourer, was not able to take care of the family needs,” Tiwari said.
