Cops fire during marriage ceremony, one killed

AURAIYA - Two cops were booked and suspended here Monday for opening fire from an AK-47 rifle that killed a man and left two people injured at a wedding ceremony, police said.

Constable Sahreer Singh attended the marriage function of his relative Sunday night along with his colleague Ram Kailash, and fired during the ceremony, killing Hakim Singh and injuring two others.

Both the constables have been placed under immediate suspension. A case has also been registered against the two,” Superintendent of Police Abdul Hamid told reporters in Auraiya, some 150 km from Lucknow.

The AK-47 rifle was issued to Sahreer Singh. While the two claim it was celebratory firing, Hakims family alleged the duo killed him intentionally. Investigations are on in this regard,” police inspector Pravesh Rana told reporters here.
