BANGKOK - Two US-made jet fighters crashed Monday during a joint Thai-US military exercise in Thailand, officials said. It was not immediately clear if there were casualties.

“We lost contact with the two F-16 fights at 10.20 a.m.,” Thai Air Force spokesman Air Vice Marshal Monthon Sanchukorn said.

The Air Force located at least one of the crashed jets in Chaiyaphum province, about 300 km northeast of Bangkok, and sent a rescue team to the site, he said.

Both pilots were Thais.

The planes were taking part in the annual Cobra Gold military exercise conducted between the US and Thai forces.
