CPI-M supporter dies in Bengal road accident

KOLKATA - One person was killed and 22 injured when a van carrying Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) supporters fell into a gorge in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district Sunday, police said.

“The vehicle ferrying CPI-M supporters from Meenakha in South 24 Parganas district to the Left Front rally at Brigrade Parade Ground, fell into a gorge while negotiating a curve near Bantala. One person died on the spot while the 22 injured were rushed to a hospital, of whom five are reported to be critical,” said a senior police officer.

Left Front chairman Biman Bose expressed grief over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the family of the victim Sanyashi Mondal, 30.

In another accident Sunday, 40 CPI-M supporters were injured when a mini-truck carrying them to the rally ground fell into a drain in Burdwan district.
