DHAKA - At least ten political activists were killed when their minibus collided head-on with an oil-laden lorry in Bangladesh’s central Faridpur district Friday, police said.

Seven of the victims died instantly in the collision. They were on board the bus carrying supporters of a newly elected ruling party lawmaker when it hit the lorry, some 60 km west of capital Dhaka.

The bus was among a 30-strong convoy of ruling Awami League lawmaker Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, who was on his way back to the capital, after paying tribute to the grave of Bangladesh’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
