NEW DELHI - Delhi Police Wednesday arrested a man carrying without any valid documents 1,025 live cartridges of .22 bore rifles from New Delhi Railway Station.

The man claimed he was the manager of Mizoram Rifles Club. Police did not reveal his identity.

“He was held while entering the platform to take the North-East Express to Guwahati in the morning,” a senior police officer said.

The police have seized all the live cartridges and the man was booked under the provisions of the Arms Act.

“Despite our insistence, the man refused to keep the bag in the X-Ray scanner. Our personnel got suspicious, searched the bag and found the cartridges,” he said.

He told the police that he is a manager of Mizoram Rifles Club and that the cartridges were for the club.

“When asked to produce the papers, the man said he was not carrying them,” said the officer.

The man has been handed over to Delhi Police’s Special Cell for investigation.
