Truck crushes man, driver held

NEW DELHI - A speeding truck crushed a man to death while he was crossing a road in north Delhi, police said Monday. The drunk driver of the vehicle was arrested.

Ram Ashre Singh, 40, was killed in Model Town area around 7.40 p.m. Sunday. Truck driver Dilip Kumar, 22, was arrested and the vehicle was impounded, police said.

“The truck hit Ram Ashre Singh and his head came under the wheels. He died on the spot, said a police officer.

Medical tests conducted on the driver confirmed that he was drunk at the time of the accident.

The victim, a resident of Ashok Vihar, was working in a private company. He is survived by his wife and two minor children.
