RAIPUR - In a second such instance within five weeks, a journalist was shot dead by unidentified assailants at his residence in Raipur district, police said Monday. The killers were believed to be upset over a news story the scribe reported.

Umesh Rajput, employed with Hindi daily Nai Duniya, was killed in Chhura area of the district, some 100 km from here Sunday night.

Police said that masked men arrived on a bike and opened fire on the 32-year-old journalist.

“The killers left a note that said about an unspecified news item and was written in red. They (murderers) seemed to be upset with Rajput over his news story but we are probing the case from other angles too,” P.L. Uike, in-charge of Chhura police station, told IANS over phone.

Earlier another journalist, Sushil Pathak, 35, was gunned down by unidentified people in Bilaspur town while returning home from a late night shift at Dainik Bhaskar office, where he was employed, Dec 20, 2010. Police are yet to make any arrest in Pathak case too.
