Illegal arms factory busted in Meerut

LUCKNOW - An illegal arms factory was busted in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district, leading to the arrest of two men involved in supplying firearms to various states of the country, police said Sunday.

The illegal arms factory was unearthed late Saturday in Pahsuma area following a joint operation by the district police and the special operation group (SOG).

“We arrested two men and recovered as many as 20 illegally manufactured firearms from the factory, situated on the outskirts of the Meerut city,” Superintendent of Police Anant Dev told reporters Sunday in Meerut, some 450 km from Lucknow.

“A number of instruments and other items used for manufacturing of country-made pistols were also recovered from the arms factory,” he added.

According to the police, the arrested men have admitted supplying firearms to their clients in western Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar and Delhi.

Police are yet to arrest the owner of the factory, who is absconding.
