VRINDAVAN - A religious preacher here is on the run after a porn film he is said to have produced with his wife went into circulation here, triggering noisy protests.

The Bhagwatacharya, described as a multi-faceted personality, has been accused of producing the movie against the backdrop of ghats, holy shrines and the Yamuna river, police sources said.

Clips of the film are doing the rounds all over Vrindavan and Mathura. The CD appears to have been commercially marketed, the sources said.

On Wednesday, his wife filed a police complaint against an IT firm which allegedly leaked the film from a laptop the religious leader had given for repair.

She told police that Rs.10 lakh was allegedly demanded in ransom before the footage went into public circulation. Police in Mathura have registered a complaint.

Other religious leaders have denounced the offending “kathavachak” who they say has disgraced the holy city. Angry youngsters have been demanding action against him and burnt his effigy.

The accused preacher has disappeared from Vrindavan.
