CHANDIGARH - The body of a five-year-old boy, kidnapped last month from here, was found stuffed in a bag on the outskirts of Chandigarh Wednesday evening, triggering street protests.

Police said the unattended bag was found near the dividing road of phase IX and X of neighbouring Mohali town.

We immediately informed the Chandigarh Police as this area comes under their jurisdiction, a Mohali police official told IANS.

Kushpreet Singh was kidnapped from outside his house in Burail village Dec 21. The abductors demanded Rs.10 lakh ransom.

The victim’s family even paid up Rs.400,000 in the presence of police, but the kidnappers did not free the boy.

It is difficult to say when did the boy was murdered, Superintendent of Police H.S. Doon told reporters.

The cold-blooded murder sparked off angry protests.

Furious family members, relatives and friends of the boy laid siege to the Burail police post and raised slogans against the police. They blocked the traffic from Sector 45 to Mohali.

Earlier, failing to get any breakthrough even 15 days after Kushpreet was kidnapped, police transferred two senior officers to police lines.

The investigation was handed over to the Crime Branch.

The Chandigarh administration announced a cash reward of Rs.100,000 for anyone providing clues leading to the arrest of the kidnappers.

The victim’s family announced a separate cash reward of Rs.100,000. “We have lost faith in Chandigarh Police,” said Lakhbir Singh, the boy’s anguished father.
