Iran executes convicted murderer in public

TEHRAN - A convicted murderer was hanged in public Wednesday in the capital Tehran, Fars news agency reported.

The man was hanged in the Kaj square in Tehran after his death verdict was confirmed by the Supreme Court.

Iran usually implements executions inside prisons, but occasionally also carries them out in public.

Murder, rape, armed robbery and trafficking more than five kilograms of drugs are among the crimes punishable by death.
