ISLAMABAD - Funeral prayers for assassinated Punjab governor Salman Taseer will be held at Lahore’s Governor House Wednesday, an official said.

The prayers will begin at 1 p.m., a spokesperson of the Governor House said. Taseer’s body was flown into Lahore from Islamabad Tuesday, Dawn reported.

The high-profile governor was killed by a member of his special security squad when he was coming out of a coffee shop and walking towards his vehicle in Islamabad’s upscale Koshar market.

The assassin, Mumtaz Qadri, immediately surrendered.

The Pakistani government has announced three-day national mourning for Taseer.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik has formed a joint probe team to investigate the murder.

Malik said: “We want to ascertain whether it was an act of an individual or someone else is also behind this killing.”
