RAIPUR - Suspecting the death of a man to be a case of human sacrifice, Chhattisgarh Police Wednesday questioned several people in a backward tribal belt to get clues about the killing.
Locals Tuesday alerted police about a body lying in a pool of blood outside a temple in Surguja district, some 350 km from here.
Police said the unidentified man, around 45 years of age, had his throat slit, indicating it could be a case of human sacrifice.
“We are keeping all aspects in mind,” police officer T.R. Paikra told IANS over telephone.
“I can’t say whether it is a case of murder or related to human sacrifice, but hope the issue will be solved in a day or two,” he added.
Surguja district bordering Jharkhand is one of the poorest areas in the country. Tribal people there sometimes offer human sacrifices to appease deities.
