LUCKNOW - A man threw acid on his wife and two other members of the family, and took his own life by consuming poison in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi Tuesday. The three acid attack victims are battling for life in a hospital, police said.
After throwing acid on his wife, mother-in-law and brother-in-law, 29-year-old Roop Narayan committed suicide in the Kosipur locality of Jhansi.
“Roop Narayan had come to his in-laws’ house in the Nawabad town, where he attacked the three people with acid and later consumed poison,” police inspector Subedar Singh told reporters in Jhansi, some 300 km from here.
“While Roop Narayan died on the spot, the other three were admitted to a hospital with the help of the locals,” he said.
“They have received multiple burns all over their bodies. Their condition is stated to be critical,” he added.
Police are yet to ascertain what caused Roop Narayan to attack the family and kill himself, but think it could be the fallout of a family dispute.
“We have learnt that Roop’s wife Aarti came to her parents’ place last week after some marital dispute,” Singh said.
