GREATER NOIDA - Nearly a dozen people were injured in a series of accidents on the Greater Noida Expressway Sunday morning as dense fog reduced visibility to near zero, police said.

According to Ajay Chaudhary, station house officer (SHO) of Surajpur, the series of crashes occurred within a one-kilometre stretch of the expressway.

In the first incident, a truck rammed into another after the latter almost came to a standstill in the middle of the road due to low visibility.

“The vehicles coming from behind could not notice it and bumped into each other, he said.

A Toyota Innova was the first to crash into the truck. Behind it was a Maruti Esteem car, followed by a Santro and then a Ford Icon and Tata Sumo. A Fiat Punto car was also involved in the pile-up.

We knew that the fog would make conditions difficult on the expressway. As a precautionary measure, we had deployed PCRs very close to each other along the road with their fog lights and sirens on, Chaudhary said.

The accidents occurred between 4 to 8 a.m. in the morning.

The injured were taken to Sharda, Naveen and Kailash hospitals nearby, where they were discharged after first-aid. No serious injury was reported.
