BEIJING - A former government official in a Chinese province has been jailed for 13 years after his diaries detailing his sexual encounters, hard drinking and receiving bribes were leaked online, a media report said Wednesday.
Han Feng, 53, a former official with the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region government was Tuesday also fined 100,000 yuan ($15,000) in personal assets and 700,000 yuan ($105,100) of the bribes he had taken, China Daily reported.
Han, formerly the sales director at the tobacco monopoly bureau in Guangxi, was found guilty of accepting 695,000 yuan and a 319,000-yuan apartment in bribes from companies contracted to construct office buildings in Qinzhou and Laibin cities.
The Nanning Intermediate People’s Court ordered recovery of the money that Han had received and for auction of the apartment, with the proceeds to be turned over to the government.
Han, however, voluntarily returned over 590,000 yuan after his arrest in March.
The court Tuesday said his diaries - from September 2007 to January 2008 - contained detailed entries of his sexual relationships with five women.
The diaries revealed a corrupt lifestyle involving drinking with government officials, police officers and directors of tobacco companies, as well as business trips that were actually taken for leisure.
“Wang asked me for lunch at the Guijing Hotel. There were just the two of us. He gave me two bottles of Moutai liquor and 50,000 yuan. I deposited 30,000 yuan and took 20,000 home,” read an entry dated Sep 16, 2007.
On Dec 29, 2007, he wrote: “2007 has been a good year. Work is going smoothly. Income is as high as 200,000 yuan. It’s been a lucky year with women. I need to pay attention to my health with so many sex partners.”
An unnamed man exposed Han by posting entries from the diaries on an online forum. He said his motive was to take revenge against Han for having a sexual relationship with his wife.
