NEW DELHI - A conman, posing as a member of the Sikh extremist group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) to extort money from gurdwaras in the capital, was arrested by Delhi Police’s Special Cell Monday.

Sukhdev Singh Sikha alias Suresh Sharma, 51, a resident of Punjab, has been accused of duping people.

“Sukhdev Singh gathered good knowledge about the functioning of banned Sikh extremist groups such as BKI, Khalistan Commando Force and Khalistan Zindabad Force while he worked as an attendant in gurudwaras,” said a senior police official.

“The Special Cell received a tip-off that a suspected BKI member would be visiting gurdwaras in the capital and collect money from gurdwara officials on the pretext that he is working for BKI,” the official added.

Singh has also been allegedly involved in forcefully getting flats evacuated by tenants, extorting money, cheating and various other offences.
