NEW DELHI - Congress president Sonia Gandhi Monday said it was the duty of party workers to reach out to those affected by heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and other states.

Heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and other states have caused destruction of crops. It is our duty to reach out to the affected people and see that they are given adequate relief, Gandhi said in her address to the party’s parliamentary party meeting.

She said that in some parts of the country, particularly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, farmers were being forced to make distress sales as minimum support price purchases were not taking place. She asked party workers to intervene and help the farmers.
