Elderly couple commit suicide by hanging

LUCKNOW - An elderly couple allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves with a rope in the courtyard of their house here Saturday, police said.

R.S Yadav, 62, and his 60-year-old wife Tulsi Devi were found hanging inside their house in the Gudamba locality.

Yadav’s elder son Arun Yadav, who works in a private company, said in his statement to police that his father called him up on his mobile phone to tell him that his mother had committed suicide, police said.

When Arun reached home, he found both of them hanging with the rope in the courtyard.

“We are yet to ascertain what prompted the two to take the extreme step. Investigations are on,” Lucknow police spokesperson Anand Srivastava told reporters.
