Rapist burns victim in Jharkhand

JAMSHEDPUR - A woman sustained severe injures after a man accused of raping her a few months back tried to burn her alive here Saturday, police said.
“On Saturday morning, the rape victim went to answer nature’s call in a field near her home. Nikunj poured kerosene on her and set her on fire. She sustained 90 percent burn injuries and has been admitted to a hospital. We have taken her statement and launched an operation to arrest Nikunj,” a police officer told IANS.
According to him, the rape victim is a resident of Baratudi village, which comes under Potka police station of steel city Jamshedpur. She was allegedly raped by Nikunj Mandal few months ago and had lodged a case. However, police did not arrest Mandal.
Jamshedpur is the home town and Lok Sabha constituency of chief minister Arjun Munda.
