13 killed in Iraq blasts

BAGHDAD - Some 13 people, mostly Iranian pilgrims, were killed Saturday and more than 100 injured in several blasts throughout Baghdad, according to security sources.

Pilgrims were killed when a car bomb went off in al-Kadhemiya area of northern Baghdad, while another explosion killed more in al-Shoala neighbourhood in the western part of the city.

Security sources also said that at least nine Iraqi civilians were wounded in central Baghdad from an explosion near a house.

Meanwhile, more people were wounded in a roadside bomb in the south-west district of Baghdad, while four policemen were wounded when their patrol was targeted in the centre of the city.

The blasts, in total, left at least 102 people injured.

On Friday, some 20 people were killed, mostly Iranians, when two buses collided in southern Iraq.

Shia pilgrims, mostly Iranians, come from outside Iraq to visit shrines and mosques and revive their sacred religious events.
