Two gangsters shot dead in Punjab shootout

MOHALI - Two wanted criminals were gunned down in a fierce gunfight between Punjab Police and a group of gangsters at Kharar town in this Punjab district Friday evening, police said.
According to the police, a special team of Gurdaspur police was following two cars in which the gangsters were traveling. Police opened fire on the criminals and a gunfight ensued. One of the gang members was injured while police managed to arrest four other members.
“Gurdaspur police were following the members of Vijay Topi gang who were crossing through Kharar town this afternoon. Police officials first fired at the tyres of the car so that the gangsters could not run away,” Mohali police chief Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told reporters here.
This gang was involved in various cases of looting, robberies and car-jacking in different parts of Punjab and Chandigarh, he added,
Kharar town is around 20 km from Chandigarh.
