Chandigarh official sent to judicial remand

CHANDIGARH - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court here Wednesday sent the superintendent of the Chandigarh estates office to 14-days judicial remand in a corruption case, an official said.
According to the CBI officials, the accused was identified as Mahal Chand and he was arrested late Tuesday. Chand had demanded Rs.200,000 from Sohan Lal Arora, a resident of Sector 15 here, in lieu of issuing him a no-objection certificate in a case related to his property. Chand had approached Arora through one Varinder Dhawan, said a CBI official.
Arora approached us and on the basis of his complaint we laid a trap. Chand was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs.100,000. We have also raided his house, he added.
Dhawan was also arrested and he was sent to 14-days judicial remand by the CBI special court here Wednesday.
