Cold claims one life in Punjab

DERABASSI - An elderly man died due to excessive cold here Tuesday, becoming the state’s first casualty of the current winter season, police said.

We found an unidentified body on a bench at a bus stand this morning. We immediately took the body to the civil hospital here, where doctors declared him brought dead. Doctors have cited excessive cold as the reason for his death,” a police officer said.

The deceased was around 72-years old and his identity is yet to be ascertained, he added.

The minimum temperature has hovered between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius for the past few days in the state, while the maximum temperature has not risen beyond 23 degrees.
