Man held for murder after 10 years on the run

NEW DELHI - Delhi Police have arrested a man, who was on the run for 10 years, on the charge of murdering a truck driver, a senior official said Wednesday.
Baljinder Singh (36) of Gurdaspur in Punjab was arrested Tuesday from SAS Nagar, Mohali, in the state,” Deputy Police Commissioner Chhaya Sharma said.
Singh, who was a truck driver in Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar in the capital, was wanted for the murder of Satnaam Bajwa, another truck driver and a friend of his assistant.
“His assistant stole Rs.1,500 from Singh’s pocket, for which he was heavily thrashed, tied with a rope and put inside the truck cabin,” said the official.
According to police, the assistant later took revenge on Singh, beating him and insulting him in public, with the help of Bajwa and some others.
Singh caught his assistant in Bajwa’s truck Feb 27, 2001, fired at them and fled. Bajwa was killed in the shooting, the official said.
The driver returned to Gurdaspur and absconded from there with his wife, the official added.
