Dacoit gang busted, five arrested

NEW DELHI - A gang of dacoits has been busted and four cases of robbery and one of murder-cum-dacoity have been solved with the arrest of five gang-members including its leader, police said Monday.

“Afsar, 27, the kingpin, Umar Ali, 24, Naushad, 25, Hari Singh, 26 and Jitender, 20 were held from Income Tax Colony at Pitampura area in north Delhi Sunday during vehicle checking,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Meenu Choudhary.

The five were riding stolen motorbikes without helmets and when frisked, a home-made pistol and two live cartridges were recovered from them.

During interrogation, Afsar admitted that he was involved in around 20 cases of robbery and a murder.

“He along with his associate robbed a factory in Ashok Vihar in north Delhi Jan 29 and shot dead the owner, Anil Kumar and injured his employees, said Choudhary.

“Afsar had spread his tentacles all across the capital, forming different small gangs to carry out incidents of dacoity and robbery using illicit weapons and stolen motorbikes,” the DCP added.
