NEW DELHI - A thief who, along with his accomplices, stole around 250 cars and removed their compressed natural gas (CNG) kits and music systems before dumping the vehicles has been arrested, police said Sunday.

Monu, a resident of Ashok Vihar in north Delhi, was held Friday night from Pushp Vihar in south Delhi following a tip-off.

During interrogation, we found that Monu, along with five to six associates, was involved in around 250 incidents of CNG kit thefts in Delhi and neighbouring towns, said a police officer.

He told police that he along with his associates Javed, Naresh, Mahender and Raj Singh were involved in thefts of car spare parts.

They had got a good disposal chain of all stolen items through their contacts in Noida and Meerut (in Uttar Pradesh). They moved in the city in a luxury car and stole cars fitted with a CNG kit, took it to a deserted spot and removed the kit alongwith other gadgets like the music system and abandoned the car, said the officer.

We have seized 18 CNG kits and eight CNG cylinders from his rented house which was used as a warehouse of stolen items, he said.

Monu was held on a police complaint filed by Saurabh Gupta, a resident of Saket. Gupta told police that the music system was stolen from his car along with its CNG kit Feb 11.

Efforts were on to arrest Monu’s associates, said the officer.
