NEW DELHI - Frustrated at being unable to go to school as his father failed to deposit the fees, a 14-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself inside his house in west Delhi Thursday morning, police said.

Aljin Varghese, a student of Class 8 in Adarsh School in Uttam Nagar area, was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside his room.

Family members told police that Aljin was depressed over not being able to go to school since Feb 5. “His name was struck off from the school rolls after his father E.G. Varghese failed to deposit the fees, said a police officer.

Police have recovered a suicide note from the schoolboy in which he had asked forgiveness from his mother and father for his act. “I am leaving the world. Sorry Mom, Sorry Papa. Good Bye,” reads the suicide note.

“We are investigating the matter and have also approached the school,” said the officer.

Aljin’s mother taught in his school for some years and during this time, he did not have to pay the fees. When she left to take up a nursing job, the school insisted on the boy paying the fees.

Aljin’s father works at a restaurant and was not in a position to pay the fees.
