LUCKNOW - Three arms smugglers, two of them from Uttarakhand, were arrested with illegal firearms and over 100 live cartridges in Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Wednesday.

The three men were held late Tuesday from Sungadhi town following a joint operation by the Special Task Force (STF) and the district police.

“Preliminary investigations reveal the three worked for a Bihar-based racket involved in supplying and manufacture of illegal firearms,” Superintendent of Police Prem Gautam told reporters Wednesday in Pilibhit, some 250 km from Lucknow.

Besides the 104 cartridges, two pistols and a revolver were seized from the three men.

According to police, the three were in touch with a number of criminal gangs from Uttar Pradesh and adjoining states and used to supply them illegal firearms and ammunition.

Of the three, two are natives of Uttarakhand, while the other is a resident of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh.
