Youth killed for protesting abuse of sister

KOLKATA - A 16-year-old boy in West Bengals North 24 Parganas district died Tuesday after being severely beaten up by some people after he protested their using abusive language against his sister, police said.

The boy, Rajib Das, was severely beaten up by three miscreants late Monday night when he protested against them for using abusive language at his elder sister. He succumbed to his injuries at a city hospital this (Tuesday) morning, said North 24 Parganas Additional Police Superintendent (Barasat) S.M.H. Meerza.

According to the local people, the incident took place at around 11.30 pm Monday when Rajib, along with his sister, were returning home at Banikanthapur near Barasat.

At the Kacharimaidan area, where the offices and bungalows of senior police officers and district officials are housed, three persons made abusive comments at his sister. Rajib protested this.

The three then beat up Rajib and attacked him with sharp weapons. Rajib was rushed to Barasat district hospital and from there he was shifted to the R.G. Kar Hospital here.

The death of the boy has triggered an agitation in the area. The locals put up road blockade for a few hours, alleging negligence of police to tackle the killers.
