10 killed, five hurt in Maharashtra road accident

DHULE - At least 10 people were killed and five injured seriously when a speeding tanker rammed into a tempo here Sunday, police said.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. when the minidor tempo, carrying 15 passengers from Shirpur to Nardana village, was hit by the tanker coming from the opposite direction.

Eight tempo occupants died on the spot. Among them was the owner-driver of the tempo, Ravindra B. Patil, 33, a resident of Dabhashi village.

The collision was so severe that the minidor was flung at least 50 feet away on the busy Mumbai-Agra highway.

The local villagers rushed to the rescue of the victims. They admitted the injured to the Dhule civil hospital where two later succumbed.

The toll is expected to go up as the condition of the injured is reported to be serious, police said.
