LUCKNOW - Three Chinese nationals, arrested Monday after they crossed over to the Indian side of the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, were Friday remanded to 10 days in judicial custody by a local court.

The three were held by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at Rupaidiha in Bahraich district, about 180 km from here.

The arrested, including a woman, claimed to be engineers engaged in installation of mobile phone towers in Nepal on behalf of well-known Chinese mobile phone giant Huawei, that was entrusted with the task in the Himalayan state.

Police claimed to have caught them taking pictures at the border.

According to Bahraich Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kakkar: “They were charged with entering Indian territory without passport and visa.”
