NEW DELHI - A 24-year-old man was repeatedly stabbed by his friend after accidentally stepping on his foot here. The man has been admitted to a city hospital, police said Sunday.

The incident occurred in a by-lane in outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri - B block at around 10.30 p.m. Saturday. The victim has been identified as Deepak. The attacker, Ravi (23), was a confirmed drug addict, police said. Both were drunk.

Dipak was standing near the entrance to the by-lane leading his house when Ravi came over to meet him. As Deepak approached to greet him, he accidentally stepped on Ravi’s foot, a senior police officer said.

Both were drunk and an argument started. Ravi lost his temper, took a kitchen knife from his pocket and started attacking Deepak, said the officer.

Ravi had already stabbed the victim four times before onlookers intervened and rushed Deepak to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. The assailant fled the scene, the officer added.

Ravi attempted to outsmart the police by lodging himself at a government-run de-addiction facility in the Khiradi area, from where he had only recently been released.

We arrested Ravi from the rehab. He is also wanted in a snatching case registered in 2007, the officer said.
