Four arrested for car thefts, carjackings

NEW DELHI - An inter-state racket in auto lifting and carjacking was busted with the arrest of four people in the capital, police said Tuesday. One of the arrested was also involved in cases of murder and rape.

Those arrested have been identified as Subhash Kumar, 25, Banwari Lal Meena, 26, Khalil, 25 and 20-year-old Jagdish Meena, a notorious criminal of Rajasthan involved in cases of murder and rape. The four were involved in numerous cases of car stealing in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Subhash was travelling on the Mehrauli-Badarpur road Jan 7 when his car was signalled to stop during routine checking. On this, he parked his car on the roadside and tried to escape on foot. He was overpowered and apprehended, a police officer said.

Examination of the car’s documents revealed that it was stolen and on sustained interrogation Subhash disclosed that he and his associates had stolen the car a few weeks back. He disclosed the names of all his associates and they were arrested too.

All the four were interrogated and Meena confessed that during a carjacking incident in August last year in Rajasthan, he had shot dead the owner as he refused to hand over his vehicle to him, police said.

With their arrest, we have solved the murder case of a sales tax officer, an abduction and rape case, four cases of robberies in Rajasthan, two cases of motor vehicle thefts in Delhi and one in Harayna, the police officer said.

According to police, Meena also confessed to abducting and raping a girl along with his associate in Rajasthan.
