Supreme Court issues notice to government on 2G scam

NEW DELHI - The Supreme Court Monday issued notice to the central government on a plea seeking cancellation of 2G spectrum licences allocated during the tenure of former communications minister A. Raja.
The apex court also issued notices to 11 telecom companies which allegedly did not fulfil obligations as per the terms and conditions of allocation of spectrum.
The apex court impleaded the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) as a respondent in the petition.
A bench comprising justices G.S. Singhvi and A.K. Ganguly sought the response from the Department of Telecom and the companies within three weeks and posted the matter for hearing Feb 1.
Raja had to resign as minister last year after allegations of corruption in the allocation of 2G spectrum.
